About Rarecharts

Rarecharts is an on-line only source for original rare sea charts and maps, port plans, books, nautical prints, photographs and nautical ephemera. We are a member of IMCoS, the International Map Collector's Society and we are located near Lake Wylie in Tega Cay, South Carolina.

Rarecharts' mission is to offer our visitors a unique and uncommon selection of scarce nautical antiques that epitomize the romance of the sea and of those who traveled on her.  Information provided for each item in our catalog is designed to foster understanding about its place and significance as a historical artifact set in the larger context of more than 3000 years of maritime history.

Our own interests are strongly influenced by a educational background in archeology as well as experience owning and operating two coastal towing vessels in South Louisiana during the oilfield boom and later crash in the 1980s. I like to say that back then I was the only unindicted non-Cajun in the tugboat business along Bayou Lafourche, Louisiana.

My own small experience leaves me a strong appreciation for the challenges facing coastal navigators and of early navigational accomplishments before the era of dependable power, radar, GPS, and 24-hour deodorant.

We are always interested in purchasing sea charts, prints and other unique nautical paper artifacts. Please contact us by email at:
