DESCRIPTION: Interesting original miniature antique map of the Maluku Archipelago or Moluccas near the Banda Sea ca. 1609 by Petrus Bertius. Includes Sulawesi, Timor, Seram and numerous other islands in the Malaku province of Indonesia.

Petrus Bertius (1565 – 1629) was a Flemish theologian, historian, geographer and cartographer and was related to Jodocus Hondius Sr. and Pieter van den Keere by marriage. Bertius studied at the University of Leiden and later traveled in Germany and Russia. In 1620 Bertius emigrated to France and he was appointed as a cosmographer to the court Louis XIII.
