Antique British Chart of the Caribbean Sea and West Indies

West India Islands and Caribbean Sea. Sheet 1 comprising Florida Strait, Bahama Islands, and the Greater Antilles compiled from the most recent surveys 1876, with corrections to 1914. [1926]

DESCRIPTION: Spectacular large and original early twentieth-century nautical chart of south Florida and the Caribbean. Points in the USA include towns south of Orlando: Tampa, Cape Canaveral, Key West , Lake O-kee-cho-bee, and much more. Includes the islands of Jamaica, Cuba, Hispaniola, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos. Hundreds of soundings and navigational hazards are identified.

Later edition of a British Admiralty chart first engraved and published from London in 1876. This bold, dark print retains the cartographic look and style of the late 19th century with updated hand-coloring by a professional map colorist. More recent charts do not display the character of this beauty.
