In the foreground a small boat is shown ferrying passengers dressed in Dutch clothing of that era. <BR> </BR> The steam side-wheelers Giraffe and Ocean were both launched in 1836 and operated as mail steamers for the General Steam Navigation Company (GSNC) . Not the Robert E. Lee ( ex Giraffe), a Civil War Confederate blockade runner built in 1862 with twin stacks. <BR> </BR> The GSNC was founded in 1824 in Greenwich, England. For 150 years the firm was London's top short-sea shipping service with routes between the ports of Britain and north west Europe. <BR> </BR> Attribution line below the print reads: "Painted by W.J.
